Climate actions

We are committed to a 1.5 °C climate target outlined in the Paris Agreement and to science-based measures to mitigate climate change. We act through climate-positive forestry, significant emission reductions, and the development of innovative, renewable products.

Towards net-zero emissions - ambitiously

Our target is to reduce our own CO₂ emissions by 65% and the CO₂ emissions of sourced materials and logistics by 30% by 2030. These targets are in line with the goal of the Paris Agreement and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

We have also joined the UN’s Forward Faster Initiative, which accelerates progress toward the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. As a member of this initiative, we are committed to setting a science-based net-zero emissions target in line with the 1.5°C pathway by 2050 at the latest.

We are also committed to The Climate Pledge, an initiative of Amazon and Global Optimism that brings together world-class companies from various sectors to address the climate crisis and decarbonize our economy.

Climate change mitigation actions are integrated into our strategy and business-specific roadmaps, investment plans, daily operations, financing and management remuneration. Minimizing the use of fossil fuels and raw materials is the most important way to make a difference.

Our climate approach in summary

Our climate actions are rooted in science and driven by impact. They are embedded in our strategy, operations and products. We calculate and monitor the greenhouse gas emissions generated by our operations, whether they are direct or indirect. We calculate these emissions using the widely known principles of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol which categorizes emissions into three scopes based on where they originate in the value chain.

Sustainable forest management

Biodiversity is critical for mitigating the effects of climate change. We ensure that our forests and plantations continue to act as carbon sinks, remain resilient and diverse, and thrive for future generations.

Decarbonizing the supply chain

The majority of our carbon footprint originates in the value chain. We expect our partners to commit to our targets and provide data on the carbon footprint of the goods and services we purchase. We have established the -30 by 30 program to ensure we reach our Scope 3 CO₂ emission reduction target related to materials and logistics by 2030.
