Science-based targets (carbon)
Targets set by a business to provide it with a clear route to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. An emissions reduction target is defined as 'science-based' if it is developed in line with the scale of reductions required to keep global warming below 1.5oC from pre-industrial levels.
Comment: these operate under a framework set by the SBTi, which is an NGO working in partnership with CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the ‘We Mean Business’ Coalition. It has become the global standard for setting science-based targets.
