Fossil carbon
The carbon content in non-renewable fossil fuels such as crude oil, coal, and natural gas, or found in other materials (such as calcium carbonate (limestone)) that originated from plants and animals and was formed over millions of years.
Comment: In ‘emissions to air’ by industry statistics, peat is also defined as a fossil fuel.
