Cradle-to-gate
A phrase used in life cycle assessment describing the start of a process (‘cradle’, when raw materials are sourced, extracted, or made) through to the production process, up to the ‘factory gate’ but before it is transported to a customer.
Comment: The phrase is used to describe the ‘system boundary’ of a lifecycle assessment, to make clear where the assessment starts and ends.
