Embedded / embodied emissions
Also known as embodied emissions or embodied carbon, this refers to the amount of carbon dioxide or equivalent emissions that were emitted in order to produce a product or undertake an activity. It is most often used in the building sector, due to the need to properly understand and account for the full emissions ‘footprint’ over the lifetime of the building. Embedded emissions are essentially a full lifecycle carbon footprint.
