Safety induction

We strive to lead in health and safety, ensuring the well-being of our employees and suppliers. Our business partners and their employees must adhere to our safety standards and work practices. Suppliers and contractors must complete safety training, a job-specific orientation, and obtain a work permit before accessing a UPM site.

Safety induction course

Anyone working or providing a service in UPM facilities must complete the UPM safety induction course.

Start by registering to training. You can select your preferred language from the top right corner.

The course consists of three modules:

The UPM general safety induction covers globally applicable safety topics.
The site-specific module covers local safety topics in more detail.
The contractor safety training module covers applicable UPM safety standard requirements. This module is required for contractor employees in Finland in some business areas. See if this applies to you on the personal course list after registration.

For heavy-vehicle drivers, a common safety induction applicable to Finnish mills, which must be completed before arriving at the mill. In addition, individual sites may have more specific inductions and training requirements, such as the Biorefinery safety induction, due to production processes or the characteristics of the products being transported. Transport companies will be informed of these requirements separately.

At UPM, we aim to lead in health and safety by striving for zero fatal and serious accidents through continuous improvement and risk management. A key part of our efforts is the safety induction.

We ensure the safety of employees and contractors and require business partners to adhere to our safety standards. Contractors must complete UPM safety training, a job-specific induction and obtain a work permit. We expect active participation in hazard identification and safety reporting.

The rules and standards we have set include:

Addressing safety issues promptly.
Training personnel and contractors in safe practices.
Regularly auditing and improving safety programs.
