UPM’s EMAS reports look beyond Europe
Currently, all UPM pulp and paper mills in the EU, as well as both the UPM Fray Bentos and UPM Paso de los Toros pulp mills in Uruguay and the Changshu paper mill in China, are registered under EMAS. We are one of the very few companies that have EMAS registration on a global level. The reports cover key topics such as water and air emissions, waste management, energy use, safety, taxes, and community engagement.
Since 2017, UPM has expanded its reporting to include societal impacts, such as health and safety, tax contributions, and community projects.
EMAS brings benefits to many stakeholders
EMAS delivers value across the board. For customers, it means working with a partner whose environmental performance is independently verified, ensuring transparency and trust in responsible sourcing.
Investors benefit from reduced risk and improved long-term value, as EMAS promotes resource efficiency, cost savings, and compliance with environmental regulations - all of which are key factors for resilient business models.
For decision-makers, EMAS provides a robust framework for managing environmental risks and opportunities, enhancing credibility in markets that prioritize sustainability-driven partnerships.
Behind every number at the mills is the hard work of UPMers striving to make processes cleaner, safer, and more efficient. The scheme fosters employee engagement in sustainability initiatives, boosting motivation.
