I work in recruitment, supporting managers and local HR with job postings, interview arrangements, hiring and onboarding, and any system-related questions. This also includes lots of communication with candidates. I mostly support recruitment across EMEA, but I also manage the yearly summer recruitment program in Finland. Summer time in Finland is an important period for students to gain work experience and apply what they have learned during their studies into practice. UPM is hiring hundreds of summer trainees every year and together with a project team we are making sure that they are able to start their internship without any problems. In addition to recruitment, I’m also working as a Key User, which includes troubleshooting and both process and system improvement topics.
The most satisfying part of my job is the variety of tasks I can do and the freedom to improve the processes we have. I can discuss with my colleagues how we can resolve problematic parts of a process or find answers to tricky questions. I especially enjoy problem-solving, and this is a big part of my role. The biggest challenge for me would be time constraints; sometimes I just don’t have enough time to do everything I want, and I need to put some things on hold.
In UPM HR Service Center, we have lots of smaller projects that we can participate in, as well as additional roles we can apply for. I especially enjoyed being an internal trainer for Public Speaking and Presenting. I can use my skills in various tasks, and I get to learn more. From time to time, there might also be a possibility to join a UPM gig or even an internal or international job rotation to gain new skills and continue developing yourself.
We have a strong culture of giving back. Around Christmas time we have a charity auction and we also have one day a year when we can participate in different volunteering activities during workdays.
We also have other activities for employees such as participating in a business run, walking tour of the city. There’s really something for everyone throughout the year.
I really appreciate that there is so much room to grow in HR Service Center and that I can continuously learn new things. I also get to work with a very diverse group of people - whether it is in recruitment, an internal project or an improvement initiative. There are so many different kinds of opportunities that sometimes I have to remind myself I can’t do or participate in everything.
