Designed to address the entire value chain's impact, the Carbon Action portfolio offers a tangible path toward achieving Scope 3 emission2 reductions for printers and brand owners. The carbon footprint reduction is quantified by UPM Label Life. Label Life is based on life cycle assessment (LCA), a standardized method for analyzing the environmental impact of products. The service has been validated by DEKRA to provide reliable LCAs.
The portfolio provides a meaningful solution for the packaging industry. It leverages the power of circular economy principles and provides quantifiable emission reductions that empower customers and brands to reduce the carbon footprint of their packaging materials without compromising on label quality or performance.
Committed to customers' success
The Carbon Action portfolio is available to customers worldwide. In the EMEIA region, it includes Carbon Action PP label materials that are recycling-compatible and feature an ISCC PLUS–certified face film containing 30% renewable content, calculated on a mass-balance basis. It’s an alternative to fossil-based materials and expected to smoothly replace traditional options without compromising quality or performance.
“Our Carbon Action portfolio is more than a collection of new products. It’s a declaration of our unwavering commitment to sustainability and our customers’ success. By providing innovative solutions that can directly contribute to reducing carbon footprint and enhancing circularity, we empower our customers and brands to take concrete steps toward a low carbon circular economy,” explains Henriikka El Hattab, Product Manager for Consumer Label Solutions at UPM Adhesive Materials.
The UN Global Compact Forward Faster initiative aims to accelerate progress toward the five areas in the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals: Climate Action, Living Wage, Gender Equality, Water Resilience and Finance & Investment. By joining the Forward Faster initiative, UPM commits to setting science-based net-zero emission reduction targets in line with a 1.5°C pathway, with the goal of halving global emissions by 2030 and reaching net-zero by 2050 at the latest. UPM Adhesive Materials works toward this in several ways, including reducing its own emissions and those of the supply chain, as well as committing to innovating products like its Carbon Action portfolio.
1According to the UN, only 18% of its Sustainable Development Goals are on track to meet their targets
