Internally we follow strictly the Responsible Sourcing Rules and train our employees regularly in their use. We also analyse carefully the environmental, social and economic risks there may be what comes to our supplier performance. With regard our suppliers, we require them to apply the principles of UPM Supplier Code, and we constantly also make efforts to increase the awareness of responsibility issues among our suppliers. And all this is regularly audited by a group of external and internal auditors.
Wood is the most valuable raw material source for us. Therefore our priority is to ensure that all wood fibre we use comes from sustainable sources, and that no fibre from mixed tropical hardwood is used. For our customers this is visible through FSC and PEFC certified products.
In recent years we have focused more intensively on social responsibility issues in our supply chain. We do not, for example, tolerate corruption or bribery in any form. We respect human rights as defined by the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The safety of suppliers is as important for us as the safety of our own employees. Our focus is on accident prevention which we tackle through comprehensive safety inductions and regular trainings.
To summarise; we see that once we have the principles and guidelines in place, we communicate and implement them, and finally follow their compliance, the benefits come to people, society, environment and business.
