UPM Raflatac’s Smart product offerings help companies make more sustainable choices

UPM Raflatac announces it is taking another step forward in assisting brand owners and other companies make more sustainable choices by introducing its new “Smart” product offerings at Labelexpo Europe 2019 in Brussels and Pack Expo Las Vegas. UPM Raflatac SmartChoice™ helps companies choose the right labeling material to meet their sustainability targets while UPM Raflatac SmartCircle™ products have a special functionality that enables packaging recycling.

That is why we have developed our SmartChoice and SmartCircle product offerings. SmartChoice helps in choosing the right sustainable labeling materials

When it comes to the sustainability of packaging, the choice of the label material can make all the difference. The SmartChoice offering includes a wide selection of sustainable label materials that can be used to increase packaging sustainability. As an example from the SmartChoice selection, UPM Raflatac PP Lite labels are produced with less material, meaning reduced waste and increased sustainability throughout the entire product life cycle. UPM Raflatac RAFNXT+ is another resource-efficient SmartChoice labeling material, which delivers incredible reductions in energy, water and waste compared to standard paper labels.

UPM Raflatac aims to minimize the use of virgin materials by offering sustainably sourced renewable options with recycled content like FSC-certified paper liners, as well as options for replacing fossil-based material with wood-based alternatives, such as new UPM Raflatac Forest Film™, the only product of its kind in the world.  

Enable recyclability with SmartCircle

In order to reduce  leakage from the circular system, the entirety of the packaging, including its labels, needs to be designed so that it supports recyclability. An example of UPM Raflatac’s SmartCircle solutions for enabling recyclability is the company’s Wash-Off RW85C adhesive, which enables a label to separate cleanly from a PET container during the recycling process.
