Press Release 16.9.2013 17:00 EEST

(UPM, Helsinki, September 16, 2013) – UPM's biocomposite, UPM ForMi has been awarded in the 2013 Ringier Technology Innovation Awards for the Plastic Industry in the category of Materials & Auxiliaries. The award which recognises the innovation in China’s plastic industry is presented by Ringier Trade Media Ltd. and its magazine International Plastics News for China.

The independent panel of judges commended UPM ForMi for its excellent product properties and innovative technology. UPM ForMi was also highlighted for its environmentally responsible and sustainable development concept.

"UPM ForMi biocomposite is used to replace plastic in many applications, from speakers to furniture and consumer electronics. I’m very happy that our environmentally responsible product is noticed also in China," says Stefan Fors, Director at UPM ForMi.

With UPM ForMi, up to 50% of oil-based plastics can be replaced with renewable wood-based fibres. The advantage of the wood-based fibre is its lower carbon footprint and it is certified as coming from sustainably managed forests.

Since its launch in 2006, the Ringier Technology Innovation Awards have encouraged, acknowledged and rewarded those individuals and companies who have introduced and developed a new idea, a new method, or a new product or technology for e.g. manufacturing production efficiency, which might result in energy saving and more responsible clean manufacturing in the plastics industry. This year, the Plastics Industry Innovation Awards attracted 95 entries from 89 international and local companies.
