(UPM, Helsinki, 4 September 2012 at 15 EET) – UPM’s visibility in national and international design projects has been strengthened during the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 year. The most remarkable projects by the company are WDC Helsinki 2012 Pavilion made of UPM wood and composite materials; a terrace café which furniture is made of UPM ProFi composite at Three Smiths Statue in Helsinki and Suvanto lounge furniture made of formable UPM Grada wood material at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Architect and environmental artist Mr. Marco Casagrande from Casagrande Laboratory agency says that the WDC Helsinki 2012 Pavilion has a high level of freedom in its structure. “The WDC Pavilion is not closing the modern man in and the environment out, but is rather breaking the contemporary modern style and bringing the citizens back into the forest. The Pavilion is a modernist-barbarian wooden song resonating happily with the international crew of the Aalto University Wood Program designers ", says Casagrande. UPM will celebrate the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 on a very special day, 5 September, in the heart of Helsinki. If you are in the capital on that day, come and join the UPM Design Date activities. There will be five locations which all tell a story of wood. - The idea of the day is to showcase our sustainable solutions both to consumers and professionals. We will demonstrate our design cases which have realized during the WDC Helsinki 2012 partnership. We highlight the versatility of wood, how well it bends in many different enduses in the real spirit of Biofore, says Ms. Elisa Nilsson, VP, Brand Management. At the WDC Helsinki 2012 Pavilion in Ullanlinnankatu, a morning seminar will be arranged to international architect community. The seminar will be organized in co-operation with Finnish Institute in Germany. After the seminar, at 11:00, the Pavilion will be open to everyone and a UPM product exhibition will take place there. The building has been showcasing wood and composite products made by UPM and it is open for public until 16 September. The other UPM Design Date hot spots on Wednesday 5th of September include: - Paper Recycling Spot at Narinkkatori, open for all visitors at 8:00-13:00.
