Millennium Youth Camp students work on their projects at UPM

(UPM, Helsinki, 19 June 2012) International Millennium Youth Camp students visited UPM in the mid of June. The aim of the visit was to get support for the group’s project work from UPM experts in biofuels. This year, the group of six students had a renewable energy and natural resources –theme in their project work. They focused on describing biorefinery as well as on renewable energy production and the use of hydrogen. 

UPM has been a Millennium Youth Camp partner company since the beginning in 2010, and the earlier groups have visited e.g. UPM Kymi mill and forest.

Millennium Youth Camp offers young people between years 16-19 an overview of Finnish expertise and top-level research in the natural sciences, mathematics and technology. During the one-week-camp, students network with each other, with individuals in Finnish Millennium Youth Camp partner companies and organisations, and with top scientists. The target is to help the students start up a career in their fields of interest.

The 2012 Millennium Youth Campers also had a chance to meet the two 2012 Millennium Technology Prize winners, Linus Torvalds and Dr. Shinya Yamanaka.

The leader of the Millennium Youth Camp is Professor Maija Aksela from the University of Helsinki. Professor Aksela is also the person who came up with the original Youth Camp idea.
