Biomedicum Helsinki Foundation

UPM promotes new innovations in disease research by supporting the Biomedicum Helsinki Foundation. The support is targeted especially at cancer research based on application of cell models. These models help to investigate pathogenetic mechanisms of diseases and how cancer medications work. With new cell models, it will be possible to develop even more effective treatments and cures for serious diseases in the future. 


Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC)

UPM facilitates regional high level technical education in Fray Bentos by funding the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC). The aim is to advance technical skills and engineering, particularly in mechatronics, renewable energy, transport and logistics.


Biofore Tea House - Co-operation with Tongji University

UPM and the Shanghai-based Tongji University College of Design and Innovation started a collaborative project to create a modern concept for the traditional Chinese tea house. The unique tea house showcases our wood-based biomaterials in a way that combines ancient heritage with the cutting-edge innovation.


University co-operation

We co-operate with several universities in the field of engineering technologies. Our aim is to support research related to our businesses and innovative use of our materials as well as to new opportunities to commercialise our technologies. We have co-operated with the Lappeenranta University of Technology, Darmstadt University of Technology and Nanjing University for many years. In January 2018
we expanded our co-operation with Åbo Akademi University by signing a frame agreement covering several fields of research, such as biomedicals, paper, pulp and energy.
