I work as a sorting line operator at the UPM plywood mill in Chudovo.
My main tasks include sorting the plywood in accordance with technical specifications and specific customer requirements. My typical day starts with visually inspecting and setting up the sorting line depending on the parameters of the new order. During one shift, the equipment can be reconfigured up to 15 times for new formats and thicknesses. During the sorting process, I visually check the quality of the plywood and separate it into the different types, and in a separate area I sort the plywood for subsequent manual repair work to increase the grade. During the course of my work, I identify any technical faults with the equipment. On other days, I’m scheduled to prepare the sorting line for preventive maintenance. In August the sorting line was renovated with the aim of increasing productivity, and training and configuration of the new equipment is taking place at the moment.
The team in the factory is great—we’re currently getting a lot of young people coming in.
