(UPM, Lahti, October 26, 2007) The CE marking of strength graded WISA-Strong construction sawn timber will start 1.11.2007. CE marking implies that the data printed next to the mark have been assured according to the product standard EN 14081. At the same time UPM also starts to use C class markings conformable with the above standard instead of earlier marking procedure.

CE marked construction products comply with the essential safety- and health-related requirements specified by the EU directive. The compliance of our CE marked products will be assured by internal quality control and inspections and testing by an independent, outside notified body.

From the customer's point of view, CE marking on a product means, above all, reliability and user safety. It means that the product has been tested and the results announced in a commensurate form according to the pan-European, harmonised product standard. In this way the users can rely on the correctness of the announced technical performance data.

In other further processed WISA-timber products included in the CE marking system, marking will start by the end of this year. This group contains WISA-Pro-floorings and WISA-Pro-interior and exterior panellings. CE marking will be printed in package labels, brochures and other sales documents, depending on the product. In other than strength graded sawn timber products, no inspection and testing by an independent, outside notified body is required.
