UPM has received a major order for plywood from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, the leading manufacturer of LNG carriers in Asia. During the period 2006–2008, UPM will supply Daewoo with a total of more than 120,000 cubic metres of plywood for use in the insulation of carriers transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG). The order is valued at over 100 million US dollars.
“We are very satisfied with this order. It is our largest single plywood order ever and a natural continuation of the good co-operation that we started with Daewoo in 2001. This contract also illustrates the degree to which UPM's special plywoods are appreciated internationally in industrial applications,” says Airi Hietala, Marketing Manager responsible for the shipbuilding industry's customers.
UPM is the world’s leading supplier of plywood for LNG carriers. The company started plywood deliveries to LNG carrier projects in 1969.
