UPM-Kymmene confirms that it is committed to the project to construct the new Recycled Fibre Pulp facility at Shotton Paper Mill in Wales. The company will collaborate fully with the UK Government and the European Commission to ensure that the project proceeds according to the original plan and time scale.

UPM-Kymmene's project was awarded the Grant Aid after an open competition, initiated by the UK Government's Waste and Resources Action Programme. The objective of this programme is to stimulate new paper recovery from the waste stream, and increase recycling rates in the UK, in line with EU targets.

Last week the EU Commission started a formal investigation to make sure that the project meets the environmental requirements needed to comply with the Grant Aid guidelines.
