Company History
Tom Letizia, Sr.’s dream was to have a family business devoted to premium quality products while providing the highest level of customer service and fairness. After twenty years of experience in the paving business, Tom founded his own company calling it Unique Paving Materials with the motto, “where quality and service count.”
Tom began experimenting during the winter months with additives and aggregates mixing his first batches in a coffee can with a welding rod. Sales were modest in
the beginning with just two municipalities in the Cleveland area buying the innovative cold patching material. Word traveled fast throughout Ohio that this new product actually stayed in the pothole and with that, UPM® Permanent Pavement Repair Material was on its way to worldwide recognition as the high-performance cold mix.
Many tests were performed on UPM throughout the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s proving its performance superior to other patching products on the market. With UPM’s consistent performance record,
the federal government through the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP), named UPM
the control material for the largest study on pothole patching materials. Soon after, based on the success of UPM in the U.S., Unique Paving Materials also established producers and distributors internationally.
Unique Paving Materials’ Quality Control Laboratory continually works to improve and develop exceptional pavement enhancing and maintenance products for a host of concrete and asphalt requirements.
Tom lived his dream but he also planned for the long-term success of the company. We feel
honored to be able to continue Tom’s dream and carry his work ethic and philosophy into the future. |
