UPM® Patching Questions and Answers
How long will bulk UPM last in a stockpile?
Sufficient quantities (100 + tons) have a 1 year shelf life, smaller quantities last several weeks to
several months depending on storage conditions.
The UPM stockpile will form a protective barrier on the outside of the pile, which keeps the interior
of the stockpile fresh. Do not disturb protective barrier until ready to use. Load from one end of the stockpile only.
What is the shelf life of bagged UPM?
Sealed 50-lb bags have a minimum shelf life of 1 year.
Are there seasonal grades of UPM?
YES! UPM is available in winter, spring, fall, and summer formulas. These grades are designed for optimum performance during the various temperatures of application.
How long does it take UPM to set up?
Upon compaction, the aggregate and asphalt interlock making the repair stable enough for immediate traffic. The surface of the patch will cure to the hardness of the surrounding pavement. Depending
upon the depth of the patch, UPM below the surface will cure at a very slow rate. This slow curing process allows the patch to move with the pavement during weathering, expansion and contraction.
What is the coverage rate of UPM?
Approximately 10-lbs. of UPM per square foot @ 1" depth (compacted) or approximately
1.4 ton = 1cu. yard.
Is a primer or tack coat needed when applying UPM?
NO! UPM is self-priming. The proprietary liquid asphalt used in manufacturing UPM provides a tenacious binding property to the walls of the area being repaired.
What methods of compaction are recommended?
Hand tamper, vibratory plate compactor, rollers or compaction by wheel rolling with a vehicle are acceptable. Sufficient compaction of UPM after installation will increase initial surface stability of
the repair and prevent rutting, pushing and raveling.
Can UPM be used to patch in extremely wet conditions?
YES! UPM is designed for permanent repair even in wet potholes.
Can UPM be used for concrete repairs?
YES! UPM is ideal for repairing concrete pavements - including roadways, bridge decks,
parking lots, etc.
What is the difference between UPM and other asphalt patching materials?
UPM works...guaranteed!
Can UPM patches be overlaid with hot mix asphalt?
YES! Contractors, municipalities, and Departments of Transportation have successfully overlaid UPM patches without "bleed-through", pushing or rutting.

KOLD FLO® Questions and Answers
What type of crack filler is Kold Flo?
Kold Flo is an asphalt emulsion based material modified with latex and fillers. Kold Flo can be used on asphalt or concrete pavement.
Is mixing or heating required?
NO! Kold Flo is ready-to-use right from the container. (If settling occurs from prolonged storage,
nominal mixing may be necessary.)
What size containers is Kold Flo available in?
Kold Flo is packaged in 1-gallon bottles, 5-gallon pails and 55-gallon drums.
What temperatures can Kold Flo be applied?
Kold Flo can be applied when the ambient temperature is at least 50°F. It is best to crack fill in early spring or late fall, when the pavement cracks are nearly their widest point.
Is Kold Flo affected by freezing temperatures?
YES! Freezing temperatures will destroy Kold Flo during storage or within 24 hours of application.
What size cracks can be filed with Kold Flo?
Kold Flo is designed to penetrate into crack rendering from 1/4" to 1" width and depth. The larger cracks may require a second application due to water evaporating during the curing process. Volume shrinkage of material in the crack may occur.
Does Kold Flo need to be sanded after application?
NO! Kold Flo will surface cure between 15 minutes to 1/2 hour after application, allowing for quick
traffic access. Extreme cases of humidity may prolong curing time. Kold Flo takes at least 8 hours
to completely cure. Insufficient curing time (during rain) may re-emulsify Kold Flo causing it to
"wash out" of the cracks.
Can Kold Flo be seal coated over?
YES! We recommend crack filling with Kold Flo and allowing it to cure for 24 hours before seal coating over. Smaller cracks filled with Kold Flo may be sealed over earlier, once Kold Flo has cured.
What is the shelf life of Kold Flo?
6 months minimum when stored properly.
