UPM facilitates regional high level technical education in Fray Bentos with the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC). The aim is to advance technical skills and engineering, particularly in mechatronics, renewable energy, transport and logistics.
UPM and the Shanghai-based Tongji University College of Design and Innovation started cooperation with a target to create a modern concept for the traditional Chinese tea house. The unique tea house is now ready and showcases UPM’s innovative wood-based biomaterials in a way that combines heritage with the future.
UPM partnered with Slush, one of the world’s leading business events for start-up companies in 2015. In the event, UPM was looking for solutions to the bio-based and circular economy and added value generated by smart operations. UPM wants to find partners to develop new ideas that aim to make good use of forest industry side streams such as sludge, ash and waste heat derived from the pulp and paper process.
In the core of the Bio Era Tour, introducing bioeconomy and its possibilities and innovations, is the Bio Era Truck exhibition, where visitors can learn of the latest innovations made of renewable raw materials in an interactive manner and get to innovate also themselves. UPM wants to highlight the industry's new innovations, versatile operations in the circular economy and meet young people around Finland.
UPM co-operates with several universities in the field of engineering technologies. The aim is to support the research related to our businesses and innovative use of our materials as well as to find new ways to commercialise UPM’s technologies. UPM has co-operated with the Lappeenranta University of Technology, Darmstadt University of Technology and Nanjing University for many years.
