Public affairs

Through public affairs activity, UPM aims to foster necessary prerequisites for investments and to ensure a cost competitive and predictable working environment for existing businesses. At the same time it is crucial to enable opportunities for growth and new businesses.

Competitiveness at the forefront of public affairs

For example within the EU, UPM promotes competitive and consistent energy and climate policy regulation, open trade and sustainable development of a bio based economy.

In Finland, UPM has defined six critical topic areas within the operating environment that impact the competitiveness of the forest industry. More detailed themes and messages about competitiveness can be found on the Finnish website kilpailukyky.upm.fi

Versatile dialogue on many levels

We co-operate with several associations at local and global level, and UPM is a member of a number of joint industry, sustainability and trade associations and networks. Memberships and participation enable versatile dialogue and cooperation with stakeholders at national, EU and international level. A more detailed list of these can be found under Cooperation and memberships section.

UPM is transparent in its dialogue and engagement with governments and regulators. UPM is registered in the EU´s transparency register. UPM´s transparency register identification number is 861194311863-31.

The UPM Code of Conduct sets the standards of responsible behaviour towards stakeholders for each and every UPM employee globally and also acts as a basis for public affairs activity.
