Safe employer and a good neighbour

Social responsibility covers UPM’s commitment to responsible and ethical business practices wherever we operate. UPM respects international human and labour rights and creates and maintains a healthy and safe workplace for our employees.

We aim to be a fair, motivating and safe employer for our employees and a good neighbour to the surrounding communities.

Co-operation based on continuous dialogue

A key element of managing the responsibility agenda is a constant follow-up of stakeholder views. UPM’s stakeholders have been identified in the company’s stakeholder strategy work.
UPM's responsibility principles and targets reflect the overall development in the society and therefore also correspond with the expectations of our key stakeholders; our own personnel, customers, shareholders, suppliers, local communities, non-governmental organisations and business organisations.

UPM is participating in the UN Global Compact initiative

Since 2003, UPM has been a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact initiative, a global network of businesses and other stakeholders from around the world committed to sustainability and responsible business practices. The core values of the Global Compact are presented as ten principles, which cover human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption.
