Community Involvement

UPM's operations have an impact on a wide range of stakeholder groups. We aim to be a good neighbour to the surrounding communities.

Maintaining good relations and supporting the vitality of local communities close to our operations is essential in order for our business to succeed.

UPM's own personnel, customers, shareholders, suppliers, local communities, non-governmental organisations and business organisations are among our key stakeholders. We promote mutual understanding through continuous dialogue and co-operation. Whether cooperating with shareholders, employees, customers or business partners, our target is to ensure alignment of the UPM responsibility principles and targets with the expectations of our stakeholders and of society.

We aim to further enhance our local stakeholder initiatives globally. Today, UPM provides financial support for retraining and re-employment, launching new businesses, and relocation through our “From Job to Job” programme The programme works in co-operation with authorities and partner companies and incorporates, active measures that promote employment and retraining. The UPM Foundation in Uruguay works together with other social organisations to provide support to programmes covering a large number of people.
