UPM AND WWF WORK TOGETHER FOR FORESTS
Page Content
UPM and WWF have a long history of co-operation. Recently, this co-operation has been further consolidated and, by nature, it is ongoing. UPM and WWF work together in a number of projects, both in Finland and internationally.
UPM AWARDED FSC CERTIFICATE FOR ITS FORESTS IN FINLAND
UPM has been awarded the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certificate for 394,000 ha of its forests in Finland. In 2012, UPM will broaden its forest service offering, by providing FSC services to private forest owners. All of UPM’s forests in Finland are already PEFC certified.
UPM's PAPERS RATED IN CHECK YOUR PAPER –TOOL
WWF’s Check Your Paper tool helps paper buyers to choose paper and pulp products that are produced in an environmentally responsible manner. The tool covers, for example, sustainable forest management, use of recycled fibre, carbon dioxide emissions, waste management and the impact of production on water systems.
WWF NEW GENERATION PLANTATION PROJECT
UPM is one of the partners in WWF’s New Generation Plantations Project. The New Generation Plantations Project responds to a growing need for a better understanding of the role that plantations can play in future societies, as key features of healthy, diverse and multi-functional forest landscapes, compatible with biodiversity conservation and human needs.
New Generation Plantations are forest plantations that maintain ecosystem integrity and high conservation values, and that are developed through effective stakeholder participation processes, while contributing to economic growth and employment.
