Climate

UPM shares the widespread concerns regarding global climate change. Biodiversity loss, the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere, the increase in temperature and rising sea levels are some examples of the serious impacts of global climate change.

We aim not only to continuously reduce the carbon footprint of our own operations, but also to actively develop new solutions to answer the growing demand for products with a low carbon footprint and for renewable energy sources.

Presently, 70% of UPM's power generation capacity is CO2 emission-free. Products are mainly produced using renewable energy, sourced from responsibly-managed forests.

UPM's environmental principle on climate

Our aim is to have the best-in-class carbon footprint.

Our target by 2020

• 15 % reduction fossil in CO2 emissions (from 2008-2020)

How WILL we reach our target?

• Improving energy efficiency
• Maximising the use of carbon-neutral energy
• Increasing the use of bio-based energy
