Which South American country has increased its area of forest plantations to nearly a million hectares in the last 20 years whilst at the same time increasing its area of natural forest?
Where else could you combine a welcoming speech from the Minister of Agriculture, a visit to a bee keepers’ cooperative and some of the best planned forest plantations in South America?
These were just some of the highlights from a packed week in Uruguay, when UPM was one of the joint hosts for the 2012 WWF New Generation Plantation Project study tour.
This study tour, jointly planned and hosted in Montevideo by WWF and the largest Uruguayan plantation companies, also welcomed representatives from other companies across South America as well as NGOs from Finland, the Netherlands and of course Uruguay.
