Our program is targeted for 3+ year-students in a university or a university of applied sciences who are interested in widening their perspective by working abroad. We have open internships at UPM's locations in Finland.
 
As a UPM intern you'll have a great opportunity to work in a truly international company. Traineeship is an excellent way to learn to know UPM and a stepping-stone for a potential career with us. Last year most of our trainees had their own project work or a study related to the operations in the site.
 
The UPM Bioforce trainee program was initiated in 2011 when UPM’s President and CEO Jussi Pesonen established a fund on his 50th anniversary to support international exchange of the Paper Engineers’ Association’s (PI) student members.
 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Positions for non-Finnish students are available in:

Lappeenranta (about 220 km Northeast from Helsinki): Research & Development
- Technology review on selected processes to produce fuels or other side products from waste water and waste water treatment
sludge. The focus of the work will be literature study.

Rauma Mill, (about 215 km Northwest from Helsinki): Paper Manufacturing
- Optimisation of disc filters with different paper grades/various kraft content. Target is to secure filtrate quality in all conditions.
 

Ideal candidate

If you can identify yourself from the list below you might be the person we are looking for.    
• 3+ years of studies in a relevant area (in a university or university of applied sciences)
• proactive, curious for development and renewal
• fluent in both spoken and written English.
 

What do we offer?   

In addition to the intern salary, your round-trip travel costs to your traineeship location will be covered. The receiving UPM mill will help in finding accommodation. However, the costs of the accommodation will be on trainees own responsibility. The practicalities will be discussed during the selection process. After returning the internship report each student is offered a scholarship from the fund.
 
The internships start is negotiable, preferably August or September and duration is about 2 - 3 months.
