As a UPM intern you'll have a great opportunity to work in a truly international company. Traineeship is an excellent way to learn to know UPM and a stepping-stone for a potential career with us. Last year most of our trainees had their own project work or a study related to the operations in the site.
The UPM Bioforce trainee program was initiated in 2011. UPM’s President and CEO Jussi Pesonen established a fund on his 50th anniversary to support international exchange of the Paper Engineers’ Association’s (PI)
We have some requirements for the students. Can you identify yourself from the list below?
• 3+ years of studies of relevant area (in a university or university of applied sciences)
• proactive, demonstrating curiosity for development and renewal
• fluent in both spoken and written English.
What do we offer?
In addition to the intern salary, your round-trip travel costs to place of traineeship will be covered. The receiving UPM mill will help in finding accommodation for the trainee. However, the cost of the accommodation will be trainees own responsibility. The practical details will be discussed in the selection process.
The internships start is negotiable, and duration is about 2 - 3 months.
Positions for students coming to Finland are available in the following locations:
(about 220 km Northeast from Helsinki): Research & Development
- Technology review on selected oil refining processes applicable to lignocelluloses feeds.
- The focus of the work will be literature study.
Kymi (about 140 km East from Helsinki, in Kouvola): Paper and Pulp mill
- Maintanence development in the pulp and paper mills
Tervasaari (about 145 km North from Helsinki, near Tampere): Paper mill
- Process optimization of a biological effluent plant in a paper mill.
- The candidate needs to be able to perform laboratory analyses independently in this field.

The application period for positions in Finland has now ended. The interviews by UPM will take place during March-April and the final selections are made in May at the latest.
