Category Teams manage sourcing operations

UPM Sourcing operates through cross-functional category teams which include direct material sourcing for our Business Groups: Paper, Energy and Pulp and Engineered Materials (Label materials, Plywood, Wood plastic composite). Further category teams include sourcing of recovered paper, logistics services as well as indirect materials and services.

Each category team optimizes the UPM spend and total cost of ownership and manages the relationships with suppliers according to the defined long-term strategy for the category. Sourcing teams operate closely with the business management and functions, like Supply Chain and Research & Development to ensure a holistic view to manage and optimize the innovation, supply capability, quality and cost of solutions.

Local procurement at the production units

In addition to the category teams, mill sourcing & material management provides daily material management, operational sourcing and procurement services to all UPM units and mills and this way ensures timely material and service availability. In a similar way our process experts develop and implement processes, systems and solutions for sourcing, operative procurement, inventory and warehouse management as well as e-enabled communication tools for the whole company and by this way enable supplier integration.
