UPM FOUNDATION SUPPORTS LOCAL PROJECTS IN URUGUAY

The UPM Foundation’s goal is to facilitate, encourage and activate grassroots projects in order to promote the long-term, sustainable development of the local communities in Uruguay. The Foundation supports projects that promote education, entrepreneurship, employability, healthy living and recreational activities.

Since 2006, the foundation has participated in more than 160 projects in 50 communities across Uruguay. Over the past years, the Foundation’s activity has expanded from the areas around Fray Bentos pulp mill to reach the communities where Forestal Oriental, UPM’s own eucalyptus plantation company, operates.

The UPM Foundation has, for example, donated computers to schools, offered scholarships for chemistry and mechanics students, offered young students a day’s work experience and participated in a programme for sustainable rural development.
