In Uruguay, the UPM Foundation, Fundación UPM, carries out Corporate Social Responsibility activities.
The UPM Foundation's goal is to facilitate, encourage and instigate grassroots projects in order to promote the long term, sustainable development of the local communities. The Foundation supports projects that promote education, entrepreneurship, employability, healthy living and recreational activities.
Since 2006, the UPM Foundation has participated in more than 160 projects in 50 communities across Uruguay. Most of the communities have a population of less than 1000 inhabitants. In 2010, the Foundation's activities reached more than 15,000 people located across five regions of Uruguay.
The UPM Foundation provides support to projects and programmes focusing on improving the quality of life or well-being of the residents within the area of influence of the UPM Fray Bentos pulp mill and of those who live in places where UPM's plantation forestry company Forestal Oriental operates.
The foundation works together with non-profit social organisations to carry out long-term projects with the aim to promote development and sustainable growth.
