FRAY BENTOS MILL ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE
Page Content

The Fray Bentos pulp mill operates in compliance with the strictest standards set by Uruguayan legislation, which are comparable with European Union legislation on industrial emissions. The Uruguayan National Environment Directorate (DINAMA), the company itself and the mill’s Environmental Monitoring Committee carry out regular environmental monitoring.
In Uruguay, the company carries out environmental monitoring according to the requirements set out in the Prior Environmental Authorisation (AAP) granted by DINAMA. The company has commissioned independent external experts to do the monitoring. The reports are presented to the company and to DINAMA to be made public.
This monitoring started before the start-up of the mill and continues now, that the mill is operational. It covers various aspects of the environment, such as the biology of the River Uruguay and the air quality near the mill.
