In addition to purchasing wood from forest owners UPM offers a wide range of forest services. Northern Forestry Business is responsible of the service offering in North Europe while UPM Tilhill is the market leader in the UK.

CoMPANY-OWNED forests ARE a source of wood, revenue and expertise

UPM owns about 900 000 hectares of forest land in Finland and the UK. About 770 000 hectares out of the total area is in commercial use. All of UPM's own forests are certified.

The company forests are a source of wood as well as a source of expertise to develop sustainable forest management practices and forest property services for private forest owners. A sign of good cooperation and mutual trust is that UPM manages some 1.3 million hectares of privately owned forests in Finland and the UK.

The environmental values of company forests have been mapped and protected either by the Forest Act, Nature Conservation Act or UPM's own decision.

Wood and Biomass Business

By trading wood and wood biomass with third party customers UPM aims balance the wood flows and add value.

UPM Wood and Biomass Sourcing organisation sources all wood assortments including forest energy wood to be turned into valuable products like pulp, paper, plywood or timber products or into energy. The main part of this renewable raw material is used at UPM's own mills and power plants.
