UPM supplies an electronic price label solution to a hypermarket in Lahti, Finland

(UPM, Helsinki, November 21, 2007, 11.00) - The world’s first commercial installation of an electronic price label system based on UPM Ella e-paper, has been introduced in the Lahti Euromarket hypermarket. The electronic paper labels were developed and produced by UPM and the solution has been implemented for the retailing company Tradeka by the software company SYSOPENDIGIA.

The electronic price label system has been adopted by the Lahti Euromarket’s fruit and vegetable section. Over a six-month testing period Tradeka will gather experience of the benefits of the system. Based on the experience, the benefits will be evaluated and a decision will be taken as to whether to adopt the system on a broader basis within the Euromarket store chain.

In addition to the UPM Ella Store Labels, the system includes productised cash register integration and management application as well as wireless hand terminals. Electronic price displays are linked directly to the store’s cash register system so that price updates are forwarded to the price displays in real time. Electronic price display information, such as product prices and weigh-in numbers, can be updated automatically, ensuring that they and the cash register always use the correct price.

The visual design of UPM Ella Store Labels fits in well with the store environment and brand elements can be added. UPM’s Corporate Venturing department has supplied the electronic price labels. SYSOPENDIGIA acts as the distributor and integrator of the electronic price labels.
