UPM papers rated through WWF's new tool

(UPM, Helsinki, 31 January 2011) - WWF will launch a new paper tool, Check Your Paper (CYP) at the Paperworld fair in Frankfurt, Germany. UPM is one of the paper companies that lead the way in rating its papers in the CYP tool.

WWF will introduce the CYP tool at Paperworld, hall 4.0, stand A23 as well as in WWF's Paper Seminar at Paperworld on 31 January 2011. The Check Your Paper is WWF's global benchmarking tool for responsible producers and buyers of paper products. Check Your Paper rates papers based on their environmental performance including forest, water and climate impacts. Check Your Paper is an open access, free of charge tool, which will be available after launch at checkyourpaper.panda.org.

”UPM is showing environmental leadership as being one of the first paper manufacturers to disclose their papers’ environmental profile at WWF´s Check Your Paper website. We believe this new database will help paper buyers choose the most environmentally friendly papers on the market, and WWF invites all paper buyers to check the tool before purchasing”, says Liisa Rohweder, CEO of WWF Finland.

Several UPM paper products are rated in the CYP tool. The rating offers valuable information on UPM paper products, enabling an easy search for products and comparison of them.
"WWF's tool is one way to inform stakeholders of the sustainability of our products. The tool covers a wide spectrum of environmental aspects. UPM takes into account impacts of the product over the lifecycle, from raw material sourcing to reuse or disposal of the product. Good examples of this development are UPM's EU ecolabeled products", says Päivi Salpakivi-Salomaa, Vice President, Environmental Affairs, UPM.
